Born in New Jersey of Dutch parents, Tjelda was educated in Holland. The beauty of the Dutch gardens and tulip fields fascinated the young Tjelda, and guided by her uncle, the artist Jan Muller, she created her first floral studies at an early age. After returning to the United States, she completed her formal training at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and at the University of Hawaii, where she learned the intricacies of Japanese design and the silscreen process. Her work has been featured in over 60 gallery shows. The serigraphs featured here are richly executed using many individual silk screens to achieve the vibrant colors.
