France Hilon

c
France Hilon was born in northern France and studied at the Academy de la Chaumiere and several prestigious printmaking ateliers in Paris. For fifteen years she made frequent extended visits to Japan, where she studied painting and printmaking with contemporary Japanese masters. The combination of the rigorous European painterly traditions with the exacting Asian intaglio methods sets Hilon's work apart from most of her contemporaries. She inhabits two sets of expectations, and as a true artist, she breaks the rules of both traditions to find her own voice. Her landscapes and still lifes are textured and soft, and she creates a distinct mood of quiet and anticipation.
